I’m saddened to hear Gwen Pruden passed on.  I and my sister Annette worked with Gwen in Yellowknife NWT at the Department of  Indian Affairs and Northern Development (DIAND) in Lands section in the 80’ to  the late 90’s. 

 Gwen always  has a big smile on her face, taught me and my sister a lot about what the lands department was all about.  She always loved  a good joke and she’s laugh always with  us always.    She was the kindest lady we’ve ever met.  

The last time I saw Gwen  she had drove all the way to Yellowknife by herself to visit her family.   

You will be missed Gwen and thank you for teaching us younger gals the ropes  in Lands when we were younger.  I know She would have been so happy to know that my sister and I both retired in the lands department with 35 and 40 years service at ages of 55 and 58 respectively.  Fly high and God Speed Gwen, and thank you for being our mentor.   Sandra Bradbury and and Annette Hopkins.

Dearest Gwen
It is just not the same without you.  We all miss your friendly face
and especially the days when you would play the piano for us.  You
were just across the hall from me which made it easy to sneak a visit
in now and again and bring you some soup and goodies.  You always 
had such wonderful stories to tell and just having you near was such
a wonderful experience.  You taught me a lot and I appreciate and cherish it all.  I know you will find peace where you are and I am sure
you are getting things ready for the lot of us.  We will see you in the not too distant future my dear.  Bless you and Peace be with you.

The first time I met Gwen with at one of my author book talks at RiverBend seniors facility. She came right up to me, introduced herself and was welcoming and kind. We chatted, and I fell in love with her instantly. Over the years, she shared the stories of her past and I hung on her every word. She was what a wonderful storyteller and lived a wonderful life. I will truly miss her and I will always treasure our conversations.

The very best friend a gal can have. All the wonderful shopping trips and restaurants we shared over our time at RiverBend. Miss you to the moon and back and will keep you in my heart forever !! Love Linda Bonner

Saddened to learn of Gwen’s passing. Her’s was a life not only well lived but adventurous during a very different era without the instant communication and conveniences now enjoyed in isolated northern areas. What experiences she had from from living in remote northern Quebec and NWT -literally living off the land, teaching school in a tent to living in Africa. Resilience and adaptability a necessity for survival.
Thank you Gwen for sharing your talents with so many in so many places you called home. May you Rest in Peace.

For several years, Gwen not only provided piano accompaniment for the church services at Trinity United in Merritt, but versatile as she was, also provided piano support for the Spirit Vibes, a group of some half-dozen souls who just loved to sing.
