Alfred “George” Denham passed away at the age of 78 on February 21, 2021 at the William Childs Hospice House in Palm Bay, FL. In his final days, he was surrounded by his children. Known by all as George Denham, he lived in Brevard County Florida since 1976.
Originally from Southwest New Jersey, George was born in Woodbury, New Jersey and was raised there. He attended and graduated from Woodbury High School. George was member of a band called “Ali Baba and the Four Thieves” in which he was the drummer for the band. The band traveled the Northeast Circuit playing in many popular night clubs, sometimes playing as far south as Biloxi, one place in particular that he was very fond of in Mississippi was at Gus Stevens Seafood Restaurant and Buccaneer Lounge. He was always artistic and creative. Often drawing and building things. While still in New Jersey, he met his wife Christina Mary Wilson and they married on April 2. George and Christina settled in Southwest New Jersey where he opened his own Custom Paint and Body Shop called “East Coast Customs by Spook”. George and also known as “Spook” painted some Drag Racing Cars, Motorcycles, and other cars. He was extremely talented with his painting.
George and family moved to Brevard County, Florida in the winter of 1976. He worked as custom painter for a local car dealership for many years and also assisted managing Starlite Skating Rink with his wife. At Starlite he acted as the Speed Skating team coach and traveled with the team to meets and events. This continued for 5 years. While at Starlite many of the kids had nicknamed him “Mr. D” and he still has that name from many of the Starlite Alumni.
After Starlite, George left being a Custom Painter and enter the Space Industry at Kennedy Space Center. He worked for a few of the companies and eventually landed at USBI (United Space Boosters Inc.). While working for USBI he attended Brevard Community College to obtain a Certificate Degree in Quality Control. He retired from USBI as a Quality Control Inspector Supervisor.
While working at the “Space Center”, he became an avid race car driver (Drag Racing). He custom built his own 1976 Camaro into a Drag Car. He custom painted the car 3 different ways over the years and worked on the engine himself in his home garage. You could find him at the racetrack at Orlando Speed World on Wednesday Nights and Saturdays.
After retiring from USBI, George converted his talents to the new digital age and started creating his own masterpieces of digitally manipulated art. He would take photos that he took, or other family members had taken and digitally manipulate them using different computer programs. He also created logos, bumper stickers, and other advertisements for local establishments and bands.
George fought a long battle with Emphysema and COPD. George was predeceased by his grandparents Robert Kuzma and Lillian (Shamrode) Kuzma, parents Walter George Denham and Ida Mae (Kuzma) Denham and his wife Christina Mary (Wilson) Denham. He is survived by his children George Denham (Krystal Denham), Paula Hall (Matt Hall), Tina Denham (Brad Osfar), and Virginia “Ginger” Denham. He is also survived by his grandchildren Devin Denham (Keishla Denham) and Kalen Hall and his great grandchild Nathaniel Denham.
He will be deeply missed by many and will remain in our hearts forever.
