

Retired Marine Corps Major Arthur G. Shadforth, 88, of Merritt Island passed away suddenly on February 24, 2023. He was born June 20, 1934 in New York City to William & Anna (née Malizia) Shadforth. After high school, he enlisted in the Marines and served in Korea. Honorably discharged, he graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1960. Arthur was commissioned in the Marine Corps in 1966 and later served two tours in Vietnam. He met his wife of 47 years, Sandy, in 1975 at happy hour at Camp LeJeune, North Carolina. Arthur served various billets and was the Marine Project / Liaison for the newly designed HumVee. Arthur & Sandy retired from the Marines in September of 1981 and settled on Merritt Island. He worked for several NASA contractors prior to his retirement. Arthur is survived by his loving wife, Sandy, his son, Marine Corps Colonel Scott Shadforth (Caroline), his two daughters, Leslie Flick (Michael) of Pembroke Pines, Florida, and Jocelyn Shadforth, Ph.D. of Austin, Texas, his three cherished grandsons, Spencer Shadforth and twins, Boden Flick & Gavin Flick, as well as several cousins. Visitation is at Wylie-Baxley Funeral Home on March 10th, 2023, from 5 PM to 7 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Wounded Warriors Project. Burial will be at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
