On June 5, 2022 at Viera Hospital, Carla D. Avery was called home to be reunited with her true love Rodney, at the age of 79. Carla will be loved for eternity by her children Megan and Matthew. She is a loving and loved mother-in-law to Megan‘s husband Jay and Matthew‘s wife Jill. A treasured Nanny to Sydney, Carson and Liam & a wonderful Granny to Meadow and Juniper.
Predeceased by her adoring parents Charles and Coletia, Carla was an only child but she felt the love of many cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents & extended family members.
Carla made a lasting impression on countless students and colleagues during her 35 year career with Brevard Public Schools. Her dedication to teaching was unparalleled and her classroom a special place for all who entered. Carla formed lifelong friendships with many incredible women who brought immeasurable joy to her life. One of the greatest blessings to come from her teaching career is the love and friendship that blossomed with her mentee, Donna Roehl.
Carla was a proud FSU alum & could be found watching college football & waving her foam Tomahawk for every game while cheering on the marching band. As an animal lover there was always a kitty on her lap or a dog at her feet. She was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Brevard Museum Guild & Alpha Delta Kappa.
She loved shopping for antiques, collectibles & dolls. Her happy place was Gatlinburg, TN, right around her birthday - just as the leaves began to change while walking hand-in-hand with Rodney, down the quaint shop-lined streets in the crisp, autumn air as they happily looked onto their children.
Carla dedicated her life to her family, & created a loving home & legacy. From her incredibly close relationship with her parents to her loving partnership with Rodney & her selfless generosity with her children & grandchildren. Her love & time was limitless when it came to them. They are all the better, all the happier, and all the wiser because of her.
A celebration of life will be held in her honor at Wylie-Baxley Funeral Home located at 1360 N. Courtenay Pkwy. Merritt Island FL 32953 on Friday June 17th with reception from 1PM- 2PM & service at 2PM. All Family, friends, former students & colleagues are encouraged to attend.
