Chris Carson passed away on July 12, 2024. He lives on through his mother, Linda, his wife Becky, his three children—Katelyn, Mac, and Cleigh—as well as his brother Cleigh, his sister Cami, and their families. A picture can never do justice to a person, but the smile on his face captures a lot of the man.
While completing his undergraduate work at Vanderbilt University, Chris began his ministry of service and education that spanned over three decades, five states, and seven congregations. Chris went on to earn his Master of Divinity and Doctor in Ministry from Columbia Theological Seminary, as well as a Master of Christian Counseling. Chris enjoyed teaching, preaching, counseling—those things that helped strengthen people in the Journey.
He was an avid fisherman and a self-proclaimed fisher of men. Whether he was on the pickle ball court, offering a sermon, on the golf course, or with family or friends, all he wanted to do was make each and every person he met better at being a person. That is his legacy, and that is the mark he has made on all who knew him.
He was an organ donor—the ideal organ donor, according to the wonderful doctors and nurses in the critical care unit. While we have lost a giant human being, others have renewed hope that their lives will continue. And hopefully they will. That’s what Chris was all about, and that’s what Chris, in the end, did—provide hope. Although he would never think of himself as a hero, those of us who knew him, and many who never will, will have fuller and richer lives because he was.
A celebration of Chris’s life will be held at Riverside Presbyterian Church on August 3, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall. Riverside Presbyterian Church is located at 3400 North Atlantic Avenue, Cocoa Beach, Florida 32931.
