Edward H. Mixon, Sr.,89, passed away Tuesday February 8, 2011.
He worked for the Brevard County School Board. He was the first principal of Tropical Elementary on South Merritt Island when it opened in 1962. He retired from the school board in 1980.
He was a member of the American Legion, the Veteran’s Memorial Center and a charter member of Grace United Methodist Church. Edward was a WWII veteran and served in the Phillipines with the U.S. Army Signal Corps.
He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife Jacqueline of 58 years; daughter Angie Hampton and her husband Jeff, son Ed Jr. and his wife Angie, daughter Melissa Holt and her husband Tom, and son Jeffrey; grandsons Corey and Jamie Goldfarb, granddaughters Taylor and Katherine Butler and brother Eugene Mixon.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother Elmer and Eloise Mixon; sister Mildred and brother Fred.
Visitation will begin at 10AM and the service is at 11AM Thursday February 10, 2011 at Grace United Methodist Church 65 Needle Blvd., Merritt Island. Interment will follow at Brevard Memorial Park, Cocoa.
