Rockledge
Ernest S. Morris, 90, of Rockledge, passed away on Monday November 12, 2012.
He was born in Morgan, Calhoun County, Georgia. He came to the Cocoa Rockledge area in 1944 serving in the U.S. Navy at the Banana River Naval Air Station. After being discharged in 1946, he went to work for the U.S. Navy at the Naval Base, remained on the Base until 1980 retiring with 36 years of Federal Service.
When the Banana River Naval Air Station was being deactivated after WWII ended, he was one of the 6 employees left to secure the Base. During deactivation of the Base, The Joint Long Range Services came to the Base. He was transferred to this service. He remained with the Joint Services until the Air Force took the Base over preparing for the Missile program.
Ernest was preceded in death by his wife Wynona Morris; son Ernest Lee Morris; and brother James T. Morris. He is survived by his sister Estelle Alexander; nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are Friday November 16, 2012 from 1-2PM followed by funeral services beginning at 2PM at First Baptist Church of Cocoa. Interment will be at Florida Memorial Gardens.
