Faith was born April 17th, 1924 in Santa Monica, California, the only daughter of the late Dr. Robert W. Hambrook and Mrs. Thelma B. Hambrook. She spent many of her adolescent years in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan, with her mother until she traveled to Washington, D.C. as a young woman seeking a career. She became a civilian employee at the Pentagon, and would later work for the Peace Corps. During her time at the Pentagon she met and soon thereafter married a young Army sergeant and photographer named Cecil W. Stoughton. Cecil would later gain notoriety as the first official White House photographer during the JFK and LBJ administrations. Faith was his greatest champion. Cecil predeceased Faith by seven years. They were married for 62 years.
Faith was a long time member of the St. Mark’s Episcopal Congregation in Cocoa, Florida. She enjoyed plants, gardening and was a very keen artist with oil paint. She loved the scriptures, people and her cats.
Faith leaves loving memories of her special life with her 3 children, Sharon Houghton, Jamie and Bill; her 4 grandchildren, Rhenda Remle, Ben Stoughton, Stephen Stoughton and James Houghton; and her 3 great grandchildren, Anna Remle , Lorelei Stoughton and Lawsyn Houghton.
A celebration of Faith’s Life Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, June 14th, 2015 at St. Marks Episcopal Church Cocoa Village. She will be interred at a later date in Arlington Cemetery with her husband, Cecil and daughter, Lucinda. The tears we shed today are tears of joy.
We are appreciative of the services provided to Mom and the family by VITAS Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to VITAS of Brevard in memory of Faith Roberta Stoughton.
