Fred O. Jewett, 77, died Monday, April 9, 2012 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center Southside in Jacksonville following a brief illness. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Phyllis Jewett; daughter, Jennifer Hopkins and her husband, Tom; granddaughter, Meghan Hopkins; brother, Virgil (Harold) Jewett; sisters, Maxine Koenig and Olive Koenig; and many cherished nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Anita Carol Jewett.

Born September 13, 1934 to Leo and Isa Jewett in Otway, OH, he was a self-taught plumber obtaining a Master Plumber license. In February 1966, he and his young family moved to Merritt Island. He worked for Pan American Airways at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station for 10 years as a plumber and later as a fire fighter. In 1972, he purchased the B&H Store on north Merritt Island and ran it with Phyllis until 1995. He also worked at KARS Park until he retired in 1999 and became the Administrator of Merritt Island Moose Lodge #2073. He served in that position until his death.
In June 2011, he earned the highest degree given by Moose International, the Pilgrim Degree of Merit. It was awarded to him in the House of God at Mooseheart, IL. He was also a member of the 25 Club in the 450 division.
Visitation will be Saturday, April 14 from noon until 2pm at Wylie-Baxley Funeral Home on Merritt Island. Funeral services will be at 2pm with a reception following at the Moose Lodge, North Courtenay Pkwy.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Fred may be sent to Moose Charities, 155 South International Drive, Mooseheart, IL 60539.
