

Geoffrey was a proud graduate of Princeton Community High School, Class of 1980. He continued his education at Vincennes University, earning a degree in Laser Optics in 1984. He later furthered his academic achievements at LaGrange College, earning both an MBA and a Bachelor of Science in Physics. His commitment to education and excellence led to a successful career as an engineer with Leonardo DRS, where he worked on state-of-the-art defense technology. His dedication to learning and professional growth reflected his strong work ethic and intellectual curiosity.
A man of many passions, Geoffrey enjoyed deep sea fishing and cherished time spent on the water. He was a devoted fan of Indiana University athletics, as well as the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Los Angeles Rams, loyally cheering on his favorite teams through every season. His enthusiasm for sports was matched only by his strong faith and commitment to his church community at Ascension Catholic Church, where he was an active and faithful member.
Geoffrey is survived by his loving wife of 14 years, Rhonda Schmits; his brothers, Fred (Sandy), Don (JoAnn), Larry (Judy), and Joe (Sandy); and his sisters, Mary Lou (Mike) McEllhiney, Sara Spurgeon, Alice (Bob) McAuley, Judy Wiggins, Helen (Kevin) Fuhs, Barb (Larry) Halwes, Patty Cummins, and Carol Land. He also leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews who will fondly remember his warmth and presence.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Faye Schmits, and his first wife, Peggy.
Geoffrey will be remembered for his faith, his love of family, his loyalty to his teams, and the steady, caring spirit he brought to all who knew him. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
