George Michael Kappes IV was born on 06 May 1973 at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica, CA to parents Beatrice M. (Kivela) Kappes (pre-deceased George in June 2021) and George M. Kappes III. Due to his father’s USG career, his early childhood years were spent in Buenos Aires, Argentina and Nairobi, Kenya where he attended Kestral Manor School along with his younger brother Benjamin.
Following new assignments, the family moved to Virginia, Texas and then Colorado from where George enrolled in high school classes at New Mexico Military Institute followed by a four-year enlistment in the U.S. Army. Scoring high, George was assigned to Military Intelligence which included a one-year assignment in the Republic of Korea. Following the Army, George accepted a 18-month security contract with the U.S. Embassy in Moscow. He then enrolled in and graduated from Trinity Western University in Langley, BC, Canada.
With his college B.A. Degree, George was recruited by the Central Intelligence Agency and worked there at a high level, receiving several awards, until his retirement when he moved to Montana. In his newly adopted hometown of Bigfork, Montana, George pursued his college theatrical calling and appeared in several professional stage plays to critical acclaim at the renowned Bigfork Playhouse.
George died suddenly and unexpectedly at home in Bigfork on 25 April 2022. He will be interred with Military Honors at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, Florida on 13 October 2022 following a Requiem Mass at
Divine Mercy Catholic Church, Merritt Island, FL.
