

On Wednesday, August 12, 2020 Lieutenant Colonel Herbert Augustus Jordan Jr. (Herb) surrendered his life to God. Herbert was born September 14, 1932 to Colonel Herbert A. and Marguerite Jordan. Colonel Jordan earned a BS degree in Industrial Management from Georgia Tech and went on to earn an MBA. Herbert joined the US Army infantry in 1956. He was the fifth generation of the Jordan family to serve in the US military. During his career of 30 years Herb served in a variety of roles earning many awards and commendations for his leadership skills and his integrity. Several of those years were served in Vietnam and Southeast Asia in offensive and counteroffensive campaigns. He was the consummate soldier.
Following his retirement from the Army Herbert went on to serve US military in a variety of ways including several years as Executive Director of the Navy League. Colonel Jordan spent many years as a leader with the Boy Scouts of America.
Colonel Jordan is survived by his beloved wife Gwen, two sons Gary and Charles, two daughters Judith and Anita, 4 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Throughout his life Herb gathered friends wherever he went. He will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 on Monday, August 17th at Wiley-Baxley Funeral Home in Merritt Island. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00. Due to COVID-19 restrictions attendance and space are limited. Social distancing and facemasks are required. The family thanks you for your patience and concern for all in attendance. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude Hospital for Children or A.S.P.C.A. Herb enjoyed supporting both of these charities for many years.
