Our beloved, James F. Hoehn, “Jim,” passed away on May 14, 2016, in the comfort of his home in Merritt Island, FL. Jim, the oldest of four children, was born in Baltimore, MD on January 23, 1933, to Loretta and James. His greatest love and pride was his family: wife, Mary, and children, Kathleen Hoehn, David Polen who predeceased him, Deborah & Michael Walsh, Denise Anderson and James & Tracey Hoehn. He will be dearly missed by his five granddaughters, two grandsons, two great-grandsons and his nieces and nephews.
Jim was an accomplished pianist and vocalist- a charismatic entertainer! He fulfilled his dream of performing in Las Vegas in the 1950s at the Tropicana with the group, Freddie Bell and the Bell Boys, and later in life as a lead in a production of the Music Man. His favorite audience, his friends and family, loved listening to him play and sing. Jim was also a talented dancer being employed at a young age as an Arthur Murray dance instructor. Jim and Mary shared a passion for Ballroom Dancing and were “poetry in motion” each time they took the dance floor.
Jim was a leader and charitable man, working at Bethlem Steel Company, and a member of the Boumi Temple Maryland, Howard Lode #101, Scottish Rite and Merritt Island, Florida Masonic Lodge and Catholic Church. He was a voracious learner, about everything, and traveled the world; Europe, Saudi Arabia, South America, and Egypt to name a few locations. His favorite travel destination, his country, the United States. He and Mary would pack up the motor home and explore our country’s rich history- there wasn’t a historical site in which he didn’t stop! If they weren’t driving, they were cruising, hitting ports all through the Caribbean, Alaska, and Panama Canal. At age 72, Jim became interested in learning how to fly a Cessna 172 propeller airplane and in his 80’s, learned how to speak Spanish.
There are his legacies, Lord and Family first, Curiosity to learn and Passion for the Music of Life.
He is missed.
A Funeral Mass, to celebrate Jim’s life, will be held in Florida on Saturday, June 4, 2016 10:00AM at Divine Mercy Catholic Church, Merritt Island, FL. There will be a service in Baltimore, Maryland on Friday, June 10, 2016 at 10:00AM with a burial service following at Loudon Park Cemetery next to his son.
