James E. Reeves, affectionately called “Jimmy” by his family, passed away July 8th, 2025 at his home on Merritt Island. He was born at Wuesthoff Memorial Hospital May 22, 1961. He was the only “FLO-Grown” in our family; his parents and siblings relocated from New Jersey in 1957 when the Space Center started booming.
James is predeceased by his beloved parents, William R. Reeves and Catherine J. Reeves; and brother-in-law Robert P. Klein. James is survived by two brothers, William R. Reeves Jr. (Laura), Charles T. Reeves (Debbie) and sister, Cathy A. Klein, along with many nieces and nephews, as well as great-nieces and great-nephews.
James attended Tropical Elementary, Jefferson Jr. High and graduated from Merritt Island High School. He absolutely loved Merritt Island and never moved from the family’s childhood home. He greatly enjoyed the carefree lifestyle of growing up on the Space Coast – fishing, boating, swimming, scuba diving, surfing, duck hunting, bike riding, little league baseball and beautiful sunrises/sunsets. One of his favorite pastimes was riding his bike to a park on the Indian River to watch the dolphins and amazing sunsets. He often sent his sister pictures of those cherished times. He loved seafood of all sorts and felt extremely lucky to work at Seafood Atlantic at Port Canaveral for so many years. He often sent his brother Charles pictures of the awesome fresh catch-of-the-day straight off the fishing boats.
James was a kind-hearted, soft-spoken man who easily got along well with those who took the time to know him. His co-workers recently spoke of James as a true gentleman, completely dependable, always willing to listen to others and ready to offer a helping hand. He was thankful to his friends and work family for the many years of rewarding employment, acceptance and friendship offered so freely.
Our little brother “Jimmy” will be remembered by his family for his compassionate heart and a steady stream of love and friendship. He was always thankful for what he had and had a true heart for those less fortunate. During the past year and his last couple months of retirement, he often stated with happiness and joy, that he had a “Great Life”. He was humbly thankful to those who helped him do things that he could not do himself. It brings our family such comfort knowing that he has been reunited with Mom and Dad and that one day we will see Jimmy again.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 9th @ 11:30 at Brevard Memorial Park, Cocoa.
