
Marti Burr Waggoner Schlegler, age 65, of Merritt Island, Florida, died in her sleep Monday morning May 17, 2021. “Birdie” was born September 23, 1955 in Tampa, Florida. She attended public schools in Jacksonville and Tallahassee Community College. She worked as a flight attendant for Braniff Airlines. She married Jim Schlegler in 1985, they lived in Merritt Island, and she worked in sales a number of years for Talbots.
Birdie attended Calvary Chapel Viera Campus, loved to take long walks when she would pray, enjoyed traveling, loved her “boys” Unch and Rock, loved watching sunsets, never met a stranger and enjoyed her friends, loved her family very much, and was a very devoted wife and daughter.
Marti is survived by her husband, James Schlegler of Merritt Island, step-daughter Krista Costlow and husband Shawn and two children Zach and Josie of Circleville, Ohio, her mother Catherine Waggoner of Jacksonville, her brother Wayne “Skipper” C. Waggoner, Jr. and wife Jan of Jacksonville, her sister Deborah “Deby” Fisk and husband Bill of Anderson, S.C., seven nieces and nephews, and ten great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father Wayne C. Waggoner, Sr.
