Norman was born on November 16, 1940, in Dallas, Texas, the second son of Harold and Irene (Branigan) Lowry. He was raised in Cumberland, Rhode Island and attended Cumberland High School.
In 1958, Norman enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was assigned to Paine Field, Everett, WA. In 1963 he transitioned from the U.S. Air Force to the U.S. Army and serve for additionally 28 years. As a 32-year veteran, he was honored to have served and retired as a U.S. Army Warrant Officer Four (CW4).
Assignments included: Sandia Base, NM; Seneca Army Depot, NY (3 tours); Germany (3 tours) with the 510th Ordnance Company, Gunzburg, 96th Ordnance Company, Herborn-Seelbach, and HQ, U.S. Army Europe Office of The Inspector General, Heidelberg; Elevsis, Greece - 138th Ordnance Co.; Redstone Arsenal, AL; Fort Shafter, Hawaii - HQ, Westcom, Office of Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations; Fort McPherson, Atlanta, GA - Office of The Inspector General.
He received various decorations and service medals including: the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal w/2OC, Army Commendation Medal, and Army Achievement Medal.
While stationed in Washington, Norman met and then married Sharon L. Coleman on October 31, 1962, in Seattle. They were together for the next 56 years until her passing in 2018.
Norman had a great appreciation for military history, traveling with Sharon to various historical sites throughout the world. He was a volunteer with the Red Cross at Patrick Space Force Base’s pharmacy and had a passion for model trains, being Vice President of the Titusville Area Model Railroad Club.
Norman was preceded in death by his wife Sharon L. Lowry, parents Harold Lowry and Irene Lancaster, and brother Robert T. Lowry. He is survived by his children Teresa Lowry, Roger Lowry of Spokane, WA; and Mary K. Lowe of Merritt Island, FL., sister Gail (Leo) Brousseau of Lincoln, Rhode Island, his eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, and nieces.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Faiaz M. Rasul, his personal physician of Port St. John, Lori Warren, ARNP, and the staff of Health First Cancer Institute, Titusville, FL. Special gratitude to Sandra Henry, his friend and companion of the past year.
Visitation will be Thursday, September 2, 2021, at 10:30 am with a funeral Mass following at 11:00 am at Divine Mercy Catholic Church, Merritt Island, FL. Live stream: divinemercychurch.org
Interment will be at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, Scottsmoor, FL. on September 2, 2021, at 1:30 p.m.
