Patsy Ruth Sumrall

Patsy Ruth Sumrall, 88 passed away on July 25th, 2026 at Solaris Nursing home in Merritt Island, Florida. Patsy was born on August 5th, 1937 in Mize, Mississippi to Bob Sullivan, a Government Agricultural Inspector and Gilma Sullivan, a Home Maker, brothers, Edward (Ed) Sullivan, Harold (Harry) Sullivan and Sister Jane (Sullivan) Fortenberry. The family moved to Hattiesburg where Patsy attended school and was an avid Tennis Player. After graduation, she attended Nursing School where she became a Registered Nurse (RN).

Patsy married Donald Arthur Sumrall Sr. on September 13, 1958, and moved to New Orleans Louisiana where she worked for Mercy Hospital as an RN. Moving back to Hattiesburg, she worked for Mississippi Public Health Department, performing RN duties for Home Health Triage, Vaccination Services and supporting the family's flying business, Sumrall's Air Service, which eventually led them all to; St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, Belize, British Honduras, Miami, Key Largo and Merritt Island, Florida where her sons reside in the same area today. Patsy and Don moved back to Hattiesburg and then to Sumrall, Mississippi to assist with aging parents and to continue her Nursing Career at Mississippi Health department in Columbia, Mississippi where she retired. They moved back to Florida to be near their sons and families.

The highlight of her life was when she and Don lived on their motor sailor and travelled the Caribbean for several years.

Patsy is survived by her oldest son, Donald Arthur Sumrall Jr, 65 (Christine), grandson Christopher John (Leslie) great Grandchildren Caleb and Carissa, grandson Dustin Robert, granddaughter Jennifer Denise and great grandchildren Carter and Avery. Also, her youngest son Daniel Robert Sumrall, 64 (Tammy) granddaughter Katie, great grandchildren Eli and Isabelle.

She will be remembered as a devoted wife / mother and the nurse which all of the neighborhood kids were afraid of when she came home with the latest vaccinations for us all!
