Merritt Island

Robert M. Best, 84, of Merritt Island passed away April 12, 2011. Bob was born in Boston but was brought up in Marblehead, MA. After graduating from high school in 1944 he joined the Navy. After the war he entered the Army. He was a veteran of WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. Retiring in 1968 a disabled veteran, he moved his family to settle in Merritt Island. He worked at Kennedy Space Center during the Apollo era at which time he attended night school at Rollins College where he received a BS. He then went on to Stetson University where he received his MBA. In 1975 he accepted a position with Brevard County where he worked as the Chief Internal Auditor until 1989. He was a long time member and volunteer of DAV Chapter 123.

Bob is survived by his wife of 57 years Barbara of Merritt Island, one daughter, one son, four grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

Funeral Services are private. Wylie-Baxley Funeral Home will handle the arrangements.
