Stan Yandre – Merritt Island – Stanley Edward Yandre passed to his Lord on Friday, January 27th, 2012 at his home in Merritt Island, FL. He was born to his parents, Thomas and Mary Jane Yandre on January 30th, 1947 in Tampa, FL. He was raised in Orlando, FL where he attended Winter Park High School; he graduated from there in 1965. After high school, he attended Mercer University in Macon, GA where he began his studies in history and government. While at Mercer University he pledged and joined Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. He later transferred to Florida Southern College in Lakeland, FL where he finished his studies and eventually earned a spot to spend a semester in Washington D.C. at American University. After college, Stan followed in the footsteps of his father and joined the United States Navy where he became a 2nd class yeoman aboard the USS Kitty Hawk during the Vietnam War. After traveling around the world, he eventually found the love of his life, Rebecca Andanar Rubio, in the Philippines. They got married on Valentine’s Day 1976 and settled in Merritt Island, FL. They had three loving sons, Raymond, born in 1968, deceased in 1989, Thomas born in 1977, now living and working in Houston, TX with a fiancé Robin Smith, and Michael, born in 1983 now living and working in Gainesville, FL. Stan and Becky were married for 34 loving and wonderful years. Stan lived for his wife and children. Stan was very involved in the lives of each of his sons, from Boy Scouts with Raymond to soccer with Thomas and Michael. Stan was an avid reader with particular interest in historical accounts and politics. His other joys were fishing with his boys and watching Auburn and Florida football to support his sons’ alma maters. Stan was an all around handy-man. Stan was known to help out any of his friends, all they had to do was ask. Whether it was borrowing a tool or getting advice, Stan was there. Also on Merritt Island were his brother-in-law, John Carr and his daughter Michelle. A nephew, William Waite, lives on Merritt Island with his son Fletcher and girlfriend, Ashley Hackett. Stan is also survived by his mother in Palm Bay, Mary Jane Kany. Preceding Stan in death are his father Thomas, his son Raymond, his wife Rebecca, his sisters in law Elydia and Melanie, and his brother in law Tom Waite. After the Navy, Stan began his career with Crystal Gas Company. He later worked for Island Hardware in Merritt Island then joined S.F. Travis in Cocoa Florida. After, he then began his own home improvement business where he specialized in electrical work. In 1992 he began work for Home Depot on Merritt Island which continued for over 10 years. He ended his career working for himself as a handy man, doing what he loved best, helping other people. Stan will be remembered as a charismatic and extremely friendly man. He loved his wife and sons with all of his heart. His friends and family will always love him and miss him forever. Calling hours are 5-8 PM Tuesday, January 31st at Wylie-Baxley Merritt Island Funeral Home. Services will be held at 1 PM Wednesday, February 1st at the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Florida Memorial Gardens.
