He was born in Lewiston, Maine, to parents Earl and Louise Boyce.
While growing up in Maine, Stephen played on his high school’s baseball, football and basketball teams. He moved to Florida to attend college at the Florida Institute of Technology, where he earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in mechanical engineering.
Shortly after graduation, Stephen earned his Professional Engineer’s license and maintained it throughout his career. He worked as Department Manager at Planning Research Corporation for 12 years and also served as principal engineer; he was manager of engineering at General Dynamics for 6 years; and he was self-employed as an engineering consultant for over 20 years.
While his children were growing up, Stephen spent time as their baseball and soccer coach. He also loved playing his trumpet, particularly jazz music, and he played in the orchestra for First Baptist Church of Merritt Island for 13 years. He also played in the VFW community band in Orlando for 3 years. Stephen always enjoyed his time with his family, especially their annual family ski vacations in Vermont and frequent trips to Disney World.
He is predeceased by his sister, Sharon Sage, and his grandson, William Karlee Cox III.
Stephen is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Ann; his daughter, Heather (Karlee) Cox; his son, Kevin Boyce; and his sisters, Beverly Rogers and Marilyn Harradon.
A visitation will be held Friday, July 7, from 6-8 pm at Wylie-Baxley Funeral Home in Merritt Island. A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 8, at 10 am at First Baptist Church of Merritt Island. Burial will follow immediately after at Florida Memorial Gardens in Rockledge.
