

Mr. Hillyer served his country during WW II in the U.S. Army in the 503rd Parachute Infantry, received his Master's Degree from Georgia Tech in 1948, and then retried from Dow Chemical Co. as a Market Researcher for 25 years, including working on the Apollo Programs at KSC. He then was employed with the State of Florida Dept. of Corrections.
Wallace was a Life Master Bridge player. He loved growing citrus trees and gardening. He did much genealogical research and completed a family book last year.
Wallace Hagen Hillyer was a loving husband, father and grandfather who touched and inspired those that knew him. He made the world a better place.
Survivors include his loving wife, Martha Ann Hillyer; loving children, Wallace Hagen (wife, Hoa Thi Tran) Hillyer, Jr. "Hagen" of Merritt Island and Debra Key of Pilot Mountain, NC. He is also survived by his loving granddaughter, Hana Ann Hillyer; and brother, Willis A. Hillyer of Florida. Wallace was preceded in death by 2 brothers, John and Harvey; and sister, Charlice.
Family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. followed by a Memorial service to celebrate Wallace's life on Sunday, June 19, 2011 at 3 p.m. at Wylie-Baxley Funeral Home Chapel, Merritt Island.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Brevard County Humane Society.
