

Adnola Day Chaney, beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Aunt, Sister-in-law and friend passed away peacefully at home on January, 23 2024, at the age of 91 years old. Adnola was born on January 20, 1933, in New Iberia, LA to Mckinley Day and Clayola Simon.
As a young child she lived with her mother in New Iberia, attended St. Edwards from kindergarten through high school and graduated in 1951, Less than a month after her graduation, the young 18 year old enlisted into the United States Air Force where she met and married John Henry Chaney III on June 6, 1953. She served as an Airman who earned the National Defense Service Medal after receiving and honorable discharge on February 1954. As a military spouse, Adnola and her young family relocated often living in Texas, Mississippi, California, Florida and Newfoundland, Canada before traveling to San Mateo, CA in 1962 where she lived and raised her four children from 1962 to the mid 80’s. During this time, Adnola worked as a Nurse’s Aide and Ward Secretary at Mills Memorial Hospital in San Mateo.
She retired from the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union in 1995 after over 20 years working as a grocery checker for Lucky Stores.
Extremely committed to her Catholic Faith, she attended mass weekly for her entire life. She actively participated in the liturgical life as a member of St. Matthew’s and St. Timothy’s in San Mateo and St. Joseph’s in Vacaville, CA where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. She enjoyed her volunteer work as President of St. Timothy’s Women’s Guild and member of the Foster City Mariners Island Rotary Club. She cherished her vacation cruises with her daughter Robbin, loved watching tennis, the WNBA, Master Minds, Family Feud, playing Pokeno and Bingo and visiting the Casinos after retirement.
She is survived by her four children, Michael Daniel, Orlando Craig (Deborah), Kevin Edward and Robbin Christine; her eight grandchildren, Tariq Hasaan (Jenine), Micah Daniell (Rosa), Matthew David, Aisha Danene, Matthias Darnell (Teresa), Kris Lorraine, Dorinda Marion (Angelina) and Nathan Henry; her nine great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and close family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents McKinley Day and Clayola Simon, her brother Leo Day, and her sisters Enola Billszar and Barbara Welcome.
A rosary for Adnola will be held the day prior to her Funeral Mass at Mariposa Gardens Funeral Home and Cemetery, located at 400 S. Power Rd, Mesa, AZ 85206. Her Funeral Mass will be held at Saint Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, 2654 E. Williams Field Road, Gilbert, AZ followed by a burial service at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, 1562 E. Baseline Road, Mesa, AZ.
Condolences may be expressed at her home where she lived with her son Kevin at 11421 E. Quicksilver Ave, Mesa, AZ 85212. Adnola wanted to extend a very special thank you to Gentiva Hospice, Dr. Richard Dinsdale, Emily, Amanda, Stacey and Edward.
