Dr. Anne K. Robey-Graham passed away on December 22, 2011, in Mesa, Arizona. Born in Leesburg, Virginia to John and Virginia (nee James) Kemper, Anne arrived on February 7, 1955. Anne was proud of her accomplishment of being a published author. Her book, Widow’s Words, brought together experiences from widows to help those who are going through the grief process know that they are not alone. Her first novel, The Church Sign, is an engaging adventure story that will be released early in the New Year. In addition, she produced many published poems and had won several awards for her poetry. She was also a popular speaker at Church conferences and regularly provided valuable seminars to church groups.
Anne’s education encompassed obtaining her bachelor degree from Colorado University, Boulder; a masters degree from University of Phoenix; and her doctorate from Arizona State University. She completed her doctorate while dealing with the turmoil of losing her first husband and was known as a determined and creative student who devoured two books a week, a practice she continued until her passing. She shined as a professor of communications, adult learning, program evaluation, research methodology, and other topics. It was common for her students to write her after a course and tell her she had changed their lives during their time in her classes. It was also common for her to remain long hours after class helping her students deal with life issues.
Anne loved life, learning, and laughter. She always lit up a room when she entered, lit up a conversation when she engaged, and lit up an activity when she joined. Most people found her instantly likeable and easy to open up to in order to seek her considerable wisdom. She was a devout and long serving Christian and her personal witness inspired many.
Anne is survived by her loving husband of 5 years, Dr. Gordon Graham, her son Brian (Toni) Robey, daughter Jennifer (Michael) Sloboda, step-sons Randall Graham, and Daniel (Melanie) Graham, step-daughter Alison Graham, grandchildren Brandon Sloboda, Elena Sloboda, Kenny Robey, and Catalina Robey, step-grandson Joshua Graham, father John (Shirley) Kemper, brothers Wes (Pauline) Kemper, Mark (Amy) Kemper, and sister Loni (Robert) Moore.
