Belen Vallejos Sickles

Belen Vallejos Sickles was born on February 21, 1940, to Jose and Cecilia Vallejos in the sleepy little town of Aragon, New Mexico. The first born of nine daughters, she was like a second mother to her sisters, who have very fond memories of her always being there for them and loving them in her way; always doing what was needed to help with her family.

On June 29, 1960, she married the love of her life, Mickey Lee Sickles. From that moment on, they were inseparable, doing everything together and creating a bond that could never be broken. Mickey and Belen were like “one person” and they wouldn’t have had it any other way. In the early 1970s, they moved to Globe/Miami, Arizona, where they worked in the copper mines. Belen took great pride in working alongside the men—often as the only woman. Her stubbornness and determination kept her going every day, and Mickey was always there, encouraging her to push past her fears. Together, they raised their two daughters, Debi and Karen, in Miami, building a wonderful life for their family.

Belen was a devoted mother and grandmother who always put her children and grandchildren first. She also loved all of her nieces and nephews very much and she spoke of them often and fondly.

On February 2, 2025, Belen left this world to be reunited with her beloved husband, Mickey, and their daughter, Debi. She is survived by her daughter Karen Creel, son-in-law Michael Creel, and grandchildren Tara (Brian), Brian, Dillon (Rory), Kevin, Tanner (Jessica), Randy, Trevor, and Corey, as well as eight great-grandchildren: Hayden, Connor, Ellie, Addy, Tanner Jr., Jade, Harlow, and Kane. She is also survived by her eight loving sisters: Sally, Carla, Patsy, Rose, Esther, Annie, Lupe, and Sue.

Belen was deeply loved, and her strength, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family will never be forgotten. She will be missed beyond words.

A visitation for Belen will be held Friday, February 21, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at Mariposa Gardens Agave Venue, 6747 East Broadway Road, Mesa, Arizona 85206 followed by a celebration of life from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM. A committal service will occur Friday, February 21, 2025, at 11:30 AM at Mariposa Gardens Memorial Park. A reception will occur after the committal service from 12:15 PM to 2:15 PM.
