77, of Mesa passed away on Saturday, March 22. She was born in Buffalo, N.Y. on October 9, 1936. After graduation from high school, Carol worked for the telephone company before joining the United States Air Force and was a flight attendant with the Military Air Transport Command, stationed at McGuire AFB, N.J. She met and married an Air Force lieutenant and pilot and had a daughter. He lost his life in an aircraft accident shortly thereafter. After being discharged from the Air Force, she met Richard ‘Dick’ Baird while visiting former Air Force friends in Newfoundland, Ca. They were subsequently married in Buffalo, N.Y. on August 19, 1959. During their 54 plus years of marriage, they moved many times and Carol made wonderful homes for the family where ever they lived. She was always considered the neighborhood Mom where all kids were welcome for food, hot chocolate, and just a home away from home. Carol’s generous nature was always evident in the many items she made as gifts to her friends and her concern for those in need of support during difficult times. She is survived by her husband, Dick, her children, Karen (Mark) Wysatta of Fort Worth, Texas, Lee Ann Baird of Scottsdale, AZ, Craig (Chrissie) Baird of Edgewood, New Mexico., and Richard Baird of Cleburne, Texas, her 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. According to her wishes, a private gathering will be held at a later date, as well as a memorial.
