It is with great sadness that the family of Carol Ann Hawkins announces her sudden passing on Thursday, the 28th of December 2017, after visiting her California family, and celebrating her 82nd birthday. Carol will be lovingly remembered by her children, Douglas and his wife Kris Hawkins; Cyndie and her husband Alan Crossland, and their children, Morgann and Thomas; and her daughter Jodie and her husband Scott Farrell, and their children Makayla, Ella, and Bryce. Carol is also survived by her sisters Janet Fahrenkrog, and Mary-Jo and her husband Dick Kelly, and her brother Pete and his wife Linda Swanson, who all reside in her home state of Iowa. Carol was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Richard Hawkins. She will also be forever remembered by her numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and many dear friends.
When she was young, Carol boldly moved to Phoenix with her sister Jan when they were in their 20s. Arizona was young, strong, determined, and wild, as was Carol. She conquered the desert and became a career woman, then wife and mother. Carol became a General Manager at New York Life, completing over 45 years of dedicated service. Carol was an avid china painter and created numerous beautiful pieces throughout her life. She was a wanderlust at heart and traveled twice each year to different lands, and summered in Iowa. Cruises were her favorite way to travel and have fun with her friends. Theme nights were a must, and she and her friends would dress and celebrate, to the delight of the crew and other passengers. Retirement only added more fun activities to her life, such as Stitch and Chat, Book Club, Pinochle, Mao Jang, Ocotillo Women’s Club (the Owls), 500, Red Hat Ladies, and so many more. But, her biggest love was playing the card game, Golf, with her children, family friends, and her grandchildren.
A Viewing Service in memory of Carol will be held on Monday, January 8th, 2017 between 9 and 11 a.m., at the Melcher Mortuary Chapel of the Roses, 43 South Stapley Drive, Mesa, AZ. Immediate family will follow in the family plot at Mesa Cemetery. Those who so desire may make memorial donations in memory Carol at (Abrazo Arizona Heart Hospital).
