Charles (Chuck and Charlie) Richard Albin, age 93, of Mesa, passed away on December 9, 2021. Chuck was born on January 29, 1928, in Niles, Michigan to parents William and Della Mackinen Albin. Chuck was husband to Barbara Barnes Albin, mother to his children Kathy Albin Pletcher, John (Jane) Albin, Richard (Myana) Albin and Bill (Jill)Albin. Chuck also leaves behind ten grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. After the death of Barbara, Chuck married high school sweetheart Jeanette Harker who also preceded him in death. Chuck joined the Navy toward the end of World War II, underaged with permission from his parents. Chuck married Barbara on August 7, 1948 in Angola, Indiana while on leave. After his service in the Navy, Chuck returned home and started raising his family. He was employed as a machinist, tool and die maker in the Niles area after an apprenticeship with the New York Central Railroad. He moved to Arizona in 1957 taking employment with AiResearch, later to be called Garrett, Allied Signal and Honeywell. There he was an inspector in the aerospace industry. He served as the Employee Club President, as Scout Master and played on the AiResearch baseball team. After retirement from AiResearch, Chuck found later employment with Talley Industries as an inspector. Chuck was very active in Little League baseball with his sons, serving as coach to many youths. Chuck, an avid photographer, served as the track photographer at Manzanita Speedway for many years. He also was President of the Arizona Supermodified Racing Association. Chuck’s recent years were spent living at the Sunrise Village Resort in east Mesa participating in woodworking, poker, pool, and organizing bingo as well as socializing with his many friends. He was on the Sunrise Village Golf League and played regularly until his death. (Still beating his eldest son.) There will be no immediate services due to COVID. He will be cremated and interred at the VA National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona with a family graveside service. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Banner Desert Hospital for their wonderful care during Chuck’s fight with COVID. Even though vaccinated, his age and prior conditions contributed to a losing battle.
