In Loving Memory of Chris (Close) Stover
Chris (Close) Stover went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 6, 2020. Chris passed peacefully at her home surrounded by family. Chris was the middle child of Bill and Joy (Norling) Close and was born on May 24, 1950 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix AZ. Chris’s siblings are Bill Close Jr. and Cindy (Close) Anselme. In 1955, the Close family moved to a new home in the Arcadia area. Chris went to Tavan Elementary School, Arcadia High School and then to ASU where she met her future husband Doug Stover in August 1969 and met some of her lifelong friends. Chris and Doug shared the same values of family, church, community, hard work, patience and love. Chris married Doug Stover on June 12, 1971 at Mount of Olives Lutheran Church in Phoenix, AZ. Chris became a part of the Stover family: Harold (Father), Lorene (Mother), Marlys Borcherding (Sister), Marlene Sloter (Sister), Carol Jorgensen (Sister) and Dean Stover (Brother).
We were blessed and thankful to have adopted our two children. Todd was born in 1981 and Katie was born in 1987. Todd and Katie have brought great joy and happiness into our family. Chris created over 20 photo albums to capture our family’s holidays, birthdays, trips, and activities. Chris worked part time at Desert Sun Child Development Center as a teacher’s aide in Chandler from 1984-2016 and met more of her lifelong friends while working there. Chris met with her “Girlfriends” for a Friday lunch for over 30 years.
Chris loved to spend time with her family and friends. Chris loved going to and watching football, basketball and baseball games. Chris liked to travel, read, all types of music and any show or movie that would make her laugh. Chris was a loving, kind, positive, thoughtful, sweet, fun, beautiful wife, mother and friend who will be deeply missed.

Chris was one of the first friends I made when I moved to Phoenix. Our husbands were both in architecture school at ASU. Over almost 50 years, we have had wonderful fun, some very low points, and a lot of joy. She is irreplaceable. RIP beautiful lady.
