

Darrel Dennis ‘Dee’ Johnson, 71, of Mesa, Arizona, passed away peacefully at home with his wife of 25 years, Toby, at his side on Wednesday, October 23, 2013. Born and raised in Ledyard, Iowa, he graduated in 1960 from Ledyard High School. Darrel lived in the Ledyard area until moving to Mesa, AZ in 1980. Darrel was a lifelong entrepreneur who enjoyed bartering with others. He was a very proficient craftsman who could weld together a trailer and upholster a vehicle seat all in the same afternoon. Darrel is remembered fondly by his family and friends as hardworking, honest and trustworthy. He was a Christian who was very active in his local church. In his spare time he and Toby enjoyed taking their Southwind to the sand dunes and four wheeling. Darrel was very proud of his daughters; daughter Jill Johnson Cook (Paul) of Los Alamos, NM, stepdaughter Laura Taylor Snyder (Jim), of Sparks, NV, and stepdaughter Lawayne Taylor Olesen, of Mesa, AZ. He is also survived by eight grandchildren Courtney Cook, Conner Cook, Danielle Snyder McClelland (Kyle), Jordan Snyder, Bethany Snyder, Taylor Olesen, Allen Olesen, Brandon Olesen, and three great-grandchildren Vada McClelland, Broden McClelland, and Phoenix McClelland. Darrel was predeceased by his daughter Diana Jane Johnson, his father Burton Johnson, his mother Ruby Johnson, and his brother Ronald Johnson. The family will hold a grave side service on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 11:00 am at the Ledyard Township Cemetery, Ledyard, Iowa.
