David Carl Keyes of Chandler, Arizona passed away on October 27, 2020 in his home at the age of 52. Not many people have probably ever heard him called David. He was known by friends and family as Dave, Davey, Little Dave or Buggy Dave. Besides not ever hearing him refer to himself as David, no one probably ever heard him use the term “I love you”. Not because he did not have great love for others, but he kept his emotions bottled up tight. His friends and family never questioned his love though, his love was very evident in his actions. Davey was always willing to help a friend or family member work on something, especially if it was an off-road car. Not only did he want to help, but he wanted to have a fun conversation and make others laugh while they worked. He had a great passion for the sand dunes and offroad cars. Davey had many talents and exceptional attention to detail when working with his hands. This showed in the sandrails he built and vehicles he worked on, dating back to his first complete sandrail he built, which he started as a teenager with just a frame. He was a great friend, son, sibling and uncle. He will be greatly missed by many. He is survived by his parents, John David Keyes and Mary Susan Keyes, sisters Kelly Virtanen and Kimberly Keyes, brother Daniel Keyes, brother-in-law Marko Virtanen, sister-in-law Carolyn Keyes, and 5 nephews and nieces, Austin, Lucas, Addison, Aliyana and Jackson. A virtual celebration of life will be held on Zoom on November 15, 2020 at 1:00 MST. In the Spring, his family plans to spread his ashes at the top of Buttercup in the Imperial Sand Dunes, which I think many people would agree is probably his favorite place on earth. Friends and family are invited to both and encouraged to attend if they can.
