Dellores C. Marsh passed away March 22, 2020. Raised on a New York farm with her twin brother and five other siblings in Sinclairville and later in Falconer, NY, Dee served as a WAVE in the United States Navy in Hawaii during WWII. Dee and husband Jim moved to Los Angeles, CA in 1955 and started a family. Dee was a part-time cashier, and a full-time volunteer for church socials, neighborhood parties, and Girl Scouts. Dee and Jim loved loading up the family station wagon and taking the neighborhood kids out for ice cream. Dee and family moved to Oak Creek Canyon, AZ in 1974 where they managed Don Hoel’s Cabins and grocery store. Dee’s kitchen table was always open and coffee pot always full for any public servant or local who stopped by, and they loved her annual Fourth of July chili dogs. After retiring to Cottonwood, AZ in 1991, you could find Dee cashiering at Bashas, bartending at the VFW, or spoiling her grandchildren. Dee moved to Phoenix in 2012. She was cared for by loving staff at a Brookdale Alzheimer’s/dementia community from 2014 to her passing. Dee had a strong work ethic and a green thumb. She was a selfless and loving wife, mom and grandma. She was a listener, a natural hostess, and an amazing bowler, seamstress, and poker player. Dee grew up churning butter, was female lead in her high school theater performance, and enlisted in the Navy at 20. She learned to drive at 49, left the LA suburbs for rural life at 50, became an Emergency Medical Technician with the volunteer fire department at 54, was married to Jim for 55 years, beat cancer at 95, and after many first person conversations with God, passed peacefully in her sleep at 96. Dee is survived by her sister Marge, son Brian (Ron), daughter Kam (Tim), grandchildren Mark (Hannah), Matthew (Lauren), and Kayla (Dan), and four great-grandchildren. Burial services will be held at Cave Creek National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests you offer your time and a beverage to a friend.
