Dennis Frank Ballog

October 9, 1951 – September 20, 2026

With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Dennis Frank Ballog, who passed away on September 20, 2026, in Phoenix, Arizona, at the age of 74.

Born on October 9, 1951, in Warren, Michigan, Dennis lived a remarkable life defined by love, service, adventure, faith, family, and an unwavering commitment to helping others. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and proud American.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Kathy Ballog; son, Craig (Julie) Ballog; daughter, Keri (Dexter) Hinton; his grandchildren, Grant, Jack, Anna, and Clark Ballog; and sisters, Dee Kett, and Joyce Boutwell. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, extended family, lifelong friends, colleagues, and countless others whose lives he touched through his kindness, friendship, service, and generosity.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Ann and Frank Ballog, and his sister, Doris Allen.

Dennis honorably served his country in the United States Air Force for 26.5 years, retiring as a Colonel. His military career took him and his family around the world, and throughout his life he called many places home, including Michigan, Arizona, Alabama, Iceland, Ohio, Virginia, Florida, Italy, England, Nevada, Washington, Germany, and Texas. Wherever life took him, he and his family embraced the experiences and built lasting friendships.

His military decorations and awards include:

• Air Force Commendation Medal with two devices

• Defense Meritorious Service Medal

• Meritorious Service Medal with four devices

• Air Force Training Ribbon

• Air Force Overseas Short Tour Ribbon

• Air Force Overseas Long Tour Ribbon with two devices

• National Defense Service Medal

• Air Force Longevity Service Award with five devices

• Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon with device

• Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Valor with seven devices

• Air Force Organizational Excellence Award with one device

• Legion of Merit

Dennis approached life with curiosity, courage, and a true sense of adventure. He loved running, golf, bicycling, skiing, and whitewater rafting, and he was never afraid to try something new or take on a challenge. He also had a lifelong love of reading and learning, reflecting his intelligent, curious, and thoughtful nature.

His faith was an important part of his life. As a member of Christ Greenfield Lutheran Church, he loved God, his church, and his country deeply.

He was loving, kind, generous, and smart. He was always willing to help someone in need, without expecting anything in return. He had a genuine warmth that made people feel welcomed and valued.

To his family, Dennis was so much more than his many accomplishments. He was a steady presence, a source of wisdom and encouragement, and someone whose love was felt in countless ways. His family and friends will always remember his beautiful eyes and warm smile.

His legacy will live on, and he will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.

Services will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at Christ Greenfield Church - Gilbert Campus 425 N. Greenfield Road Gilbert, AZ 85234. Viewing will begin at 12:00 p.m. and Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 p.m. Officiated by Pastor Michael Heiden

Dennis will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery. A date for his burial service will be announced at a later time.
