Donald Lucas, age 87 passed away on Thursday, September 9, 2021 with family by his side. He was born February 4, 1934 in Kenosha, Wisconsin to Delmas and Mary Lucas. Don graduated from Kenosha High School in 1953. He continued his education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he was a student athlete in swimming. He joined the Army in 1954 and served his country until 1956. After his discharge he worked in Kenosha, Wisconsin in the construction industry. He owned Lucas Ceramic Tile until he retired in 1994, when he and his wife moved to Mesa, Arizona to be closer to his daughters and grandchildren. His time living in Leisure World was spent meeting new people and building friendships, playing shuffle board, traveling with Rovers, sailing remote control sailboats with the Tillerman club and growing his roses.
He married Leona Frederich on February 12, 1956 in Kenosha, Wisconsin. They had four children, daughters Lynn, Sandra, Sharon and son James. He is survived by his companion Judy Merrill and four children: Daughters and sons-in-law, Lynn (Brian) Head, Pinedale, AZ, Sandra (Greg, deceased) Davis, Fountain Hills, AZ and Sharon (Ken) Apel, Scottsdale, AZ and son James (Margo) Lucas, Menomonee Falls, WI. Grandsons: Scott (Caitlin) Davis, Indian Rocks Beach, FL, Joshua Lucas, Menomonee Falls, WI, Aaron Apel, Athens, GA and Granddaughters, Haley Lucas, Appleton, WI, Jessica Apel, Flagstaff, AZ. He is preceded in death by his wife, Leona Frederich, parents, Delmas and Mary Lucas, Father-in-law, Joseph Frederich, mother-in-law, Ollie Frederich, and son-in-law, Greg Davis.
There will be a “ Celebration of Life” Service on October 30, 2021, at 12:00 p.m. at the Grand Ballroom, Leisure World, Mesa, AZ. A luncheon will take place immediately after the service.
