In 1950, she graduated from Grover Cleveland High School. After completing high school, she married her high school sweetheart, Elwood (Woody) Masterson, residing in Livingston for several years raising her family. Years later, she and Elwood divorced, and Dorothea and her three children moved to Landing, NJ. After a brief second marriage, she found employment at Merry Heart Nursing Home, Succasunna, NJ as a Certified Nursing Aide (CNA). She loved her job, co-workers, and caring for the patients. In 1999 after 30 years of service, Dottie retired moving to Arizona in 2004 with her daughter, Candy. She is survived by her beloved children, Candace Montague and her husband Sidney of Mesa, AZ, and Gary Masterson and his wife Denise of Succasunna, NJ, and daughter-in-law, Nan Masterson of Union Beach, NJ.

Richards and her husband Randall of Morrison, CO, and nephew, William T. Lange and his wife Phoebe of Wellington, CO.
She had five grandchildren, Kenneth Johnston and his wife Kelly of Phillipsburg, NJ, Kimberly Tramontana and her husband Rick of Breckenridge, CO, Kyle Masterson and his fiancée Ivy, of Bristol, CT, Justin Masterson and his partner, Desiree of Keyport, NC, and Clinton Masterson of San Francisco, CA. She is preceded in death by her parents, oldest son Robert Masterson, sister, Mary Lou Lange, and brothers, Daniel (Junior), Roland (Chubby), and James (Jimmie) Pelletier.
Dorothea was a devoted mother and grandmother. Affectionately known as “MomMom,” spending time with her grandchildren was her greatest joy. Her strong Christian faith and love for family and friends was evident to everyone. For several years, she was an active member in the Chandler Senior Center. She knitted newborn baby caps for the Chandler Hospital nursery and crocheted prayer shawls for local senior living facilities. In 2005, Dorothea was awarded “The President’s Volunteer Service Award” for her continuous volunteer service in the community.
The family has planned a “Celebration of Life” grave site gathering at St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery, Stirling, NJ on Sunday, August 26, 2018. The family respectfully request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to:

Knowing your mother over the years was such a blessing. Her gentle spirit and kind words were like the balm of Gilead for me. How she loved all of you. I pray that you will always remember what a blessing you were to her and that you find comfort in that knowledge and the assurance that one day we will all be together again in Heaven. Many blessings, my friend.
