She was born in Rochester Minnesota on May 21st, 1930 to Henry John and Mildred Helen Pickett and was given the name Dorothy which means God’s gift.
Dorothy was the older sister to Richard, Gerald and Vernon Pickett.
She married Bruce H. Olson the love of her life and they were happily married for 49 years until his passing.
Dorothy worked alongside of Bruce encouraging him as they built and operated Country Kitchen restaurants in the Midwest.
She was Mom to their three children Robert, Julie and David. She said God blessed her with the greatest desire of her heart when they entered her life.
Her love for children continued to grow as her family expanded to include nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, all of whom knew and loved her as Mema.
Dorothy served as a Sunday School teacher and Bible study leader and held leadership roles in the Christian Women’s Club in Cedar Rapids, where she developed many cherished friendships that endured throughout her life.
Dorothy filled many roles during her lifetime-daughter, granddaughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend-but there was one name she held closest to her heart.
At the age of ten, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and became a Child of God.
And now, she has heard another name spoken by her Heavenly Father:
“Good and Faithful Servant.”
Dorothy, you are forever loved. But always remember-God loves you more.
