

Elsie Marie Chapman (Cayse) passed away on August 31, 2020 in Mesa, Arizona at the age of 87.
Elsie was born in Zanesville, Ohio to Emanuel and Pearl Cayse on July 26, 1933. She grew up in Hamilton OH, where she graduated from high school. As a young adult, Elsie moved to the Flint, Michigan area and worked as a Nurse’s Aide. She met the love of her life, Lyle Chapman, on the dance floor in Flint in 1958. When General Motors transferred Lyle to the Mesa, Arizona Proving Grounds, Elsie followed. They were married on July 10, 1959 at the First United Methodist Church in Mesa.
Elsie was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Mesa for 60 years. She was a fixture in the church kitchen for many of those years, where she and her dear friend Barb prepared meals for Wednesday night fellowship dinners, receptions and luncheons. Elsie enjoyed serving in the UMW and Mesa Christian Women’s Club, attending Wednesday morning Bible study, cooking and crafting. She and Lyle loved to dance and spent many happy occasions together on the dance floor. They enjoyed traveling with friends and family over the years, and especially cherished the annual trips to visit family in Washington. Elsie also loved going to movies and concerts, and playing cards and games with family and friends.
Elsie loved her family deeply. She is survived by her son Steve (Christi) Chapman of Mesa AZ, grandsons Tim (Lisa) Chapman of Aurora CO and Trevor Chapman of Mesa AZ, sisters Rose (Ralph) Geurin and Dee (Norman) Campbell of Hamilton OH, brother Bob (Janet) Cayse of Canton GA, and many nieces, nephews and extended family. She also leaves behind dear friends who were like family to her: Mary, Sophie, Paul, Marty and Mick.
Elsie was preceded in death by her loving husband Lyle, daughter Linda, her parents, brother Emanuel Jr, and sister Ruby.
Elsie will be inurned at First United Methodist Church, 15 E First Ave, Mesa, Arizona, with services pending.
