Estelle A. Williamson 91, of Phoenix, passed away on March 29, 2012. Born on Feb. 1, 1921, in Williamsburg, Virginia to the late Matthew and Thaxton (Hunt) Hogan. Estelle was a graduate of East High School in Columbus, Ohio and attended Ohio State University, where she would meet her future husband, Arthur Williamson.
Shortly after his discharge from the service in 1946, Art and Estelle opened and grew a family automotive business which they relocated to the Phoenix area in 1957.
Once settled in Phoenix, the Williamson’s were active in both the business and local community. They became charter member of Southminster Presbyterian Church, with Estelle also helping to found the Royalettes and South Phoenix Women’s clubs.
In 1965, the couple adopted their first son, Michael, with Maury coming along in 1967. Estelle enjoyed taking care of all her boys (to include Art), serving at several posts within the church, tending to activities for the women’s clubs, RVing, trading recipes, and dispensing sage advice as the family sounding board. In later years, she especially enjoyed doting on her grandchildren and traveling with friends.
Preceded in death by Arthur in 1987, Mrs. Williamson is survived by her two sons, Michael and Maury; sisters, Nanny Sherman of Roanoke, Virginia, and Delores Keys of Blacksburg, Virginia; grandchildren, Maury Chaz. and Maryah; and great-grandson, Maury. Visitation will be Thurs. April 5, 2012 from 6-8PM in the Cemetery Chapel at Mariposa Gardens 6747 E. Broadway Rd. Mesa, AZ. Funeral Service Saturday, April 7, 2012 – 11:30 AM in The Serenity Chapel at Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery 2300 W. Van Buren St. Phoenix, AZ with visitation 1 hour prior to services.
