On Thursday, November 19, 2020, Heaven gained another angel. Evelyn was a faithful, loving wife, a wonderful Mother and a loving Grandma and Great Grandma. Let’s not forget, the BEST letter writer ever, the BEST cake baker and decorator AND the MOST dedicated Suns fan in the world.
Evelyn was born on May 17, 1932 in Galesburg, Illinois, the daughter of Fred and Ada Windom. She graduated from Williamsfield High School in 1950. She was active in FHA, the drama club and GAA. She married Robert Dean Carlson, the love of her life for 68 years, on Sept 5th, 1952.
They lived in the Oneida and Galesburg, Illinois area until May of 1993 and then moved to Mesa, Arizona where their children lived. After moving here, Evelyn became a major sports fan! She loved the Phoenix Suns and could name every player along with the score of the games. She also became a huge fan of the Arizona Cardinals and when Arizona got their MLB team, the D-backs, she thought that was the greatest thing since sliced bread. She had all kinds of bobble heads and depending on the season she would have her sports signs in the window. Besides sports, she loved to bake and decorate birthday cakes for her family and she did a beautiful job. Her positive outlook and constant smile will sorely be missed. Evelyn was a member of the East University Church of God here in Mesa. She loved her church family and was a devout Christian.
Evelyn is survived by her husband, Dean, 2 daughters, a son and their spouses, Sandy and Mike Reitmeyer, Scottsdale, AZ; Larry and Rene Carlson, Chandler, AZ; Debi and Doug LaLonde, Gilbert, AZ; their 7 grandchildren, Milee (Alvaro) Ramazzini, Jillian Carlson, Sean, Dustin and Makenzie Reitmeyer, and Cassidy (Jordan) Pingree and Cheyanna LaLonde; 7 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday, December 4th at Mariposa Gardens in Mesa from 1:00 – 3 pm with the celebration following at 3:00 pm. Pastor Larry Young will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the East University Church of God in Mesa. Their address is 6630 East University Dr. Mesa, AZ 85205
