Weber, Francis Joseph, age 90, of Mesa, Arizona passed into God’s loving care on Thursday, December 9, 2010 in Phoenix, Arizona. Fran was born in South Bend, Indiana on April 30, 1920. He was the beloved husband of Olga J. Weber, deceased in 1995. He also was predeceased by his father John J. Weber, Sr. and mother Johanna (Setelin) Weber, as well as by five brothers and five sisters. Fran is survived by his loving children: son, Ronald and daughter-in-law Beverly Weber (Hamilton Sq., NJ) and daughter Patricia Weber (Mesa, AZ). Grand-children include: Ronald, Jr. and wife, Lori White (Solebury, PA), Steven (Mesa, AZ) and Christopher Weber (Hamilton Sq., NJ). Great-grand-children are: Nicole Thomas (Levittown, PA), Kristin Weber (Levittown, PA) and Jeremy Weber (Hamilton Sq., NJ). Fran is also survived by his sister-in-law, Marjorie L. Marshall (Surprise, AZ), many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Fran was a World War II United States Navy Veteran, achieving the rank of Motor Machinist’s Mate Third Class. He graduated from South Bend (IN) Central High School in 1937. Fran then embarked on his cherished career in the brewing industry for the next 48 years. Fran and Olga (Marshall) were married in Fort Wayne, IN on June 14, 1941 and spent 54 happy loving, years together. Fran was a graduate of the Unites States Brewers’ Academy then in New York, NY in June, 1954 and was a proud life-time member of the Master Brewer Association of the Americas now in St. Paul, MN. He was employed at the former Drewry’s Brewery, Ltd. in South Bend, IN from 1957 to 1972, achieving the rank of Assistant Brew Master. He transferred to the former Jacob Schmidt Brewing Company in St. Paul, MN in the same year. In 1974, Fran was named Master Brewer, the pinnacle of his long, distinguished career, and he retired in 1985. Fran, Olga and Patty moved to Mesa, AZ from West St. Paul, MN in the same year where he remained a life-time fan of the University of Notre Dame Football. Fran also continued to enjoy puzzles, lapidary, golf and computers. He was a proud member of the VFW, Post 26 in Mesa, AZ.
Visitation will be held from 5:00pm to 8:00pm with Rosary at 7:00pm on Monday, December 13, 2010 at Lakeshore Mortuary, 1815 S. Dobson Rd., Mesa, AZ 85202. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at 10:00am at the Church of the Resurrection, 3201 S. Evergreen Rd., Tempe, AZ 85282. A luncheon will follow at the church. Interment with full military honors will take place at 1:00pm at Queen of Heaven Cemetery 1562 E. Baseline Rd., Mesa, AZ 85204. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Fran’s memory to the American Heart Association.
