It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of a beloved husband, devoted father, a cherished brother, and a man who truly lived life to the fullest, Fred Eldon Long, who left this world on 01-02-2024 peacefully with his family by his side.
Fred Eldon Long was born on 08-29-1956 to William & Doris in Montgomery, Alabama. He spent his childhood as an “Army Brat” moving frequently with his 4 brothers and 3 sisters to support his Father’s military career. At a very young age, Fred learned to live life to its fullest, doing what he wanted no matter the consequences. It was evident that he possessed an unwavering love for music and an insatiable competitive spirit that defined his journey through life. There was no such thing as a stranger and he treated all of those around him as family. He lived a life brimming with enthusiasm and passion, leaving a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Music was more than a hobby for Fred; it was a lifelong love affair. He had an extraordinary talent for playing various musical instruments, including the air guitar and drumming on the dash and steering wheel.
Golf, however, held a special place in Fred’s heart. He found solace on the greens, where the manicured fairways and challenging holes were his canvas for the game he adored. His passion for golf was matched only by his competitive spirit, and he approached each round with a fierce determination that inspired those lucky enough to tee off alongside him. The golf course was not only a place for friendly competition but also a sanctuary where he shared countless moments of camaraderie and laughter with friends and loved ones.
When he wasn’t on the golf course he enjoyed fishing, playing games, watching sports, being outdoors, and spending time with friends and his animals. His competitive nature extended far beyond the golf course. He approached every aspect of life with a zest for winning, always striving for excellence. He was a jack of all trades. For the last 24 years he worked as a construction foreman/ carpenter for Bronco Homes.
Above all, Fred was a devoted husband and a loving father to 3 children and 2 bonus children. He shared an unbreakable bond with his wife, Barbara Long, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support for one another. As a father, he was a guiding force, instilling in his children, the values of hard work, perseverance, and the importance of pursuing one's passions. Though he enjoyed spending time doing his hobbies, he was always there to be there for the big important moments in life.
Fred’s vibrant spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His infectious laughter, love for music, cars, outdoors, fishing, relentless competitive drive, and passion for golf will forever echo in our hearts. His love for story telling and embellishments will be missed. No matter who asked, he always had the biggest fish, golfed the best game, or was the winner in anything he did. He leaves behind a legacy of inspiration, reminding us all to live life to the fullest and never stop pursuing our dreams.
Fred is preceded in death by his parents William and Doris Long, siblings, Richard, William, Danny and Doris. Fred is survived by: His loving wife Barbara Long, Daughter Debra and Wife Celeste Micheals, Son, Michael and wife Alexis Long, Daughter Summer, and bonus children Annie & life partner Emily, and Joseph. He also leaves behind 13 grandchildren: Dabray, Tavieo, Chloe, Tyler, Allison, Alexander, Tua, Anthony, Vivian, Rowen, Aleah, Kynlee, and Connor.
A celebration of Fred Long's life will be held on 1-21-2024 at Apache Creek Golf Course, 3401 S Ironwood Dr, Apache Junction, AZ 85220 from 4pm-6pm. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Fore the Kids Arizona in his memory.
As we bid farewell to our beloved husband, father, and brother, let us remember him not with tears, but with smiles, celebrating the incredible journey he undertook in this lifetime. Rest in eternal peace, Fred.
Your memory will continue to inspire us all.
