With heavy heart we sadly express that in the afternoon of Tuesday April 16, 2013 our beloved “GG,” Henrietta Natividad Mahan, age 74 of Mesa, Arizona, passed away. GG is very much loved and this was reflected in the constant bedside vigil that her cherished family kept. There was always a loved one by her side ~ her sister, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and sweet friends of the family.
Visitation will be held from 5:30pm until 7:00 pm on Thursday April 25, 2013 at Melcher Chapel of the Roses, 43 S. Stapley Drive, Mesa, Arizona 85204 (480) 964-4537 with Rosary service beginning at 7:00 pm. On Friday, April 26, 2013, Father Kunkel will conduct mass at 9:30 am at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1551 E. Dana Avenue, Mesa, Arizona 85204 (480) 964-1719. Entombment will follow mass at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 1562 E. Baseline Road, Mesa, Arizona 85204 (480) 892-3729. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Melcher Chapel of the Roses.
Henrietta Martinez was the youngest of three children of Charley and Candelaria Martinez and was born in the “other” Las Vegas (New Mexico) on November 30,1938. Her family moved to Superior, AZ where she attended school and graduated from Superior High School. She attended classes at Mesa Community College and graduated from Blair College as a Certified Medical Assistant.
Henrietta was an independent, strong woman who bore her pain with quiet strength. She was tenacious and always had deep faith and hope. She was unique in that once she made a decision, it was done. We called our much loved matriarch many names: Kelli, Henri, Aunt Hendri, Grandma Hank, Bama, Gram(s), Gram Cracker, GG.
Henrietta is survived by her brother Manuel Martinez and sister Mary Rose White, four great children: Denise, Denny, Michelle, Twana and (Twana’s wonderfully supportive husband) son-in-law Wade Fairbourn. Henrietta has 17 beautiful grandchildren and 7 lovely great-grandchildren and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
