J. Donald Schupp

J DONALD SCHUPP (DON) died Sunday morning, February 12, 2017 at the Hospice of the Valley Lund Home. He was born March 26, 1923 in Bethlehem, PA to John & Leola Schupp. He is survived by his wife, Carole and son; Paul and his wife, Barbara; grandchildren Belinda, Robert and Amanda and faithful dog, Misty. He was preceded in death by his son, John.

For half of his working life he was a Lutheran pastor serving two churches in NJ, St Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mt Holly and Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Chatham. He and Carole were enamel artists for many years going from coast to coast doing juried art shows. They took two years off to work for the Volunteer Missionary Movement headquartered in Greendale, WI. They served in the "other" Chicago, working on the near west side and north side with women involved in prostitution for an organization called the Genesis House. In 1996 they moved to Arizona full time and retired. Each summer they would leave in their motor home to do a volunteer project for a National Park or National Forest. Mostly that involved working at a visitor center. They enjoyed telling people where to go. From 2007 to 2014 they lived in Fort Mill, SC. Then they moved back to Mesa, AZ to enjoy the beautiful desert. They enjoyed the activities in their community and made many friends. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, March 4th, 3:00 pm at Desert Heritage United Church of Christ, 1020 N Horne, Mesa, AZ 85203.
