James Louis Gale, age 85, of Mesa, Arizona passed away on Monday, March 1, 2021. James was born September 30, 1935, in St. Paul, Minnesota, to a Scottish/English father and Italian mother. He married young, to the love of his life, Karon Rae Lillemon, his wife of nearly 70 years, who presented him with five children, Debra Rae, James Scott, Michael William, Kathy Ann, and Thomas Patrick. With a growing family, he developed a fierce work ethic and his wit and ability to connect with people gifted him with a talent for salesmanship. After a brief term in the Navy, he worked as an insurance salesman, but the powerful lure of entrepreneurship had a profound effect on his life. Jim founded several businesses, focusing mainly, although not exclusively on Native American jewelry and art. He traded in gems and precious metals, and founded outlets in Scottsdale that served the public for over 35 years.
The patriarch of a dynamic family, he kept them close to his heart and home with his generous spirit and cooking skills he learned from his Italian mother. When Jim made spaghetti, the entire family showed up, and brought their friends. As excellent as his food was, though, the main draw was his humor and warmth of spirit. He and Karon were just the kind of people everyone wanted to be around. The family grew as eight grandchildren were born and eventually produced three beautiful and cherished great-grandchildren.
Jim touched a lot of hearts, and will be remembered for his love of family, his generosity, and his irrepressible humor.
A funeral service for James will be held Monday, March 8th at 9:45am at Lakeshore Mortuary, 1815 S. Dobson Road, Mesa, AZ 85202. A graveside service for James will be held Monday, March 8, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 1562 E. Baseline Road, Mesa, AZ 85204.
