He was born in Ames, IA on March 6, 1948. James graduated from West High School and received a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering from Iowa State University.
He was married to Susan Zach on February 24, 1968 in Waterloo, IA.
Jim had a career in materials handling for NACCO Material Handling Co. formerly Hyster for 33 years.
He had a passion for golf, skeet, and fishing.
He was survived by his spouse Susan; children Anne Sullivan of Charlotte, NC and Joseph (Julie) Legg of Danville, IL; grandchildren Lorelei and Milo Sullivan; siblings Carol Legg of California, Doug Legg of Texas, Jean (Paul) Nelson of Arizona; and his mother Dorothy of Arizona.
