Dear Mrs. Porterfield,

I was just informed of the death of Mr. Porterfield, and as I read the e-mail sent by a former classmate, tears were running down my face.  Henry Sgrecci, a classmate of mine in the 70's, filled me in on a recent phone call he had with you.  I graduated with Henry in 1974; you would know me with my maiden name, Ellen Wolfson.  I took various courses with both you and Mr. Porterfield and I must say, Mr. Porterfield was one of the major influences on my continuing my studies in music education.  I taught vocal music for 35 years in the Minisink Valley Central School District, in Slate Hill, NY, outside of Middletown and Goshen, NY.  I am so sorry to learn of his passing, and do hope you are doing as well as can be expected.
