

James Bryant Whiting, 89, passed away on June 22, 2026, in Scottsdale, Arizona.
James was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Carol Kay; his son, Dusty; his parents, Bryant and Lucy Whiting; his brother, Michael Whiting; and his sister, Kathy Cook.
He is survived by his daughters, Kim Whiting and Kelly Whiting Landin (Glenn); granddaughter, Jenna Meacham (Max); great granddaughter, Sophia Meacham; great-grandson, Colton Meacham; brothers, Buzzy Whiting (Sandy) and Jerry Murphy (Suzanne); 5 step-grandchildren, 11 step-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins whom he loved deeply, and there are far too many to list individually.
Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, James was raised in Springerville, Arizona. He later settled in Tempe, where he spent most of his life. A lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, James lived his faith with quiet devotion. He was self employed as a master welder and machinist, known for his precision, craftsmanship, and perfectionism.
James had a remarkable passion for woodworking and created pieces that were nothing short of extraordinary. He was an accomplished flamenco guitarist who performed on many local stages. His love of music extended to the tuba, ukulele, violin, accordion, and harmonica. He also had a huge heart for animals and an endless curiosity about the natural world.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 825 S. 32nd Street, Mesa, AZ 85204.
A graveside dedication will follow on Friday, July 3, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Eagar Cemetery in Eagar, Arizona.
