Janice Marie McBride, 75, of Benson, Arizona passed away after a long struggle with diabetes and kidney disease on May 31, 2012 in Mesa, Arizona. Janice was born to Elias and Inez Lowry on October 6 1936 in Fort Dodge, Iowa, and grew up in and around Callender, Iowa. In 1957, she married Ed McBride and had one son, Dan. After living in Fort Dodge, Kansas City, Missouri and Albuquerque, New Mexico; Janice settled for good in Benson, Arizona in 1968. While far away from the cold and snow she hated, she always struggled to turn the desert into a green Iowa landscape; lamenting the lack of the rich Iowa soil. Dairy goats, chickens and a Holstein cow completed the transformation of her Arizona ranchette to the farm of her youth. Janice was a long term employee of the federal government and retired in 1988. She returned to school and fulfilled her lifetime ambition to become a nurse by becoming a LPN in 1994. After a short second career, illness caused her to retire for good in 2000. Janice was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved brother Melvin Dwain Lowry. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Jennifer Everett.
