Jay Walter Murphy, 66, of Gilbert, AZ passed away, August 19, 2019. He was born in Akron, OH on September 27, 1952 to John and Ruth [McLaughlin] Murphy. The family moved to Kansas City, MO where Jay grew up and attended Raytown High School. He moved to Arizona to attend ASU. Jay worked as a manager at Jerry’s Audio Exchange in Tempe. He met Sandy Mull and married on February 24, 1974. Jay earned his Bachelor’s degree and worked at Deloitte, Haskins and Sells, as a CPA, for six years. A few years later, he went to work for his alma mater, ASU. Jay worked there for more than 20 years and retired, as Vice President of Finance. Jay enjoyed running, and participated in many marathons. He also ran from rim to rim at the Grand Canyon. Jay enjoyed camping, fishing and just relaxing with family, listening to his favorite music, Rock & Roll of the 60’s. He was an avid sports fan and loved watching the Sun Devils, Diamondbacks and the Kansas City Chiefs, while enjoying his Coors Light. Jay is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Sandy Murphy; children, Jon (Jessica) Murphy, David Murphy and Danielle (Chris) Martin; his grandchildren, Kyle Murphy, Matthew Murphy, Jenna Murphy, Nixon Martin and Weston Martin, as well as his sisters, Bonnie (John) Fay and Patti (Tom)Gregory and his brother, Michael (Kim)Murphy. A celebration of his life will be held at 10:00am, Sunday, September 1, 2019 at Mariposa Gardens, Chapel, 6747 E. Broadway Rd, Mesa AZ.
