He was born on August 16, 1946, the youngest of 4 children, to Lloyd and Bonnie (Kinney) Belt in Council Bluffs, Iowa. When he was 16, the family moved to Denver. He graduated high school in Commerce City and joined the U.S. Air Force. Upon returning from serving in the Air Force, John settled in Colorado and went to work in the mines. In the late 70's, John owned
JB Engineering and then in 1985 he owned and operated OPAM, Inc, where he put his steel fabrication talent to work until his retirement in December of 2014.
John enjoyed classic cars, hot rods, attending car shows, creating beautiful works of art, spending time with family and friends, movies, and the Broncos. He was a member of The Garage Rats car club for a number of years.
John is survived by his partner, Michele; son, Jeff and his wife Dawn; daughter, Sherry and her husband Shawn; step-son, Mitchell and his fiancé Tigran; grandchildren, Alex, Brendan, Gavin, Landon, Sydnee, Izzi, Mya, Christopher, Tyler, Tawny, and Carter; great grandchild, Kaidann; sisters, Kay and her husband Harold "Fronk", Karen and her husband Terry; brother, Lloyd and his wife Lynda; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, and cousins.
We are all deeply saddened, shocked and devastated by John's sudden passing. He was the most kind, gentle, loving and generous man we were all so fortunate to have in our lives. He will live on in our hearts forever. We will be planning a celebration of his life in the near future.
If you so desire, donations can be made in his memory to your local humane society or a charity of your choice. Arrangements were entrusted to Mariposa Gardens Memorial Park of Mesa, AZ. Co.
