

JOHN R. BORING, age 93, passed away in Mesa, AZ on November 16, 2024. John was the middle child born to Elsie Violet Nafziger Boring and Archie Boring. John is preceded in death by wife Suzi VanOrman Boring, son Daniel Christopher Boring and son David Datson Boring.
Survivors include son Michael Boring, wife Mari Pakay and grandchildren Paul Boring and Sara Teft; her husband Wesley Teft and great grandsons Jameson and Easton; daughter Vicky Stevenson, husband Brad Stevenson; granddaughter Taylor Houser-Boring with Centrell Ryan and great granddaughter Alani Ryan.
John enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1948. After serving in the Korean War during the Chosin Reservoir John received the National Defense Service medal, Korean Service medal, the UN Service Medal, the Presidential Unit Citation and Korean Presidential Unit Citation. After 20 years of service John retired as a Gunnery Seargent from USMC in 1968.
He married Mary Skelton in 1951 and together they had 3 children: son Michael, daughter Vicky and son David.
The family settled in Scottsdale, AZ close to family. He worked in the private sector in Sales and Marketing including Arizona Title (now First American Title) off and on until he retired. During retirement he wrote and self-published 3 books and wrote critical revues for accuracy in military books and articles for the Leatherneck magazine.
John married Suzan VanOrman in 1973. They were together for nearly 40 years. In 1980 they adopted son Daniel Christopher Boring. John and Suzi loved the RV life and traveled extensively between Mexico and Arizona.
There will be a “Celebration of Life” at Open Door fellowship at 8301 N 19th Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85021 on Dec. 12th at 2:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Open Door fellowship in John Boring’s name.
